Chris Holmes is Managing Director, Strategic Development of The Open Planning Project (TOPP). Chris has served as lead developer of GeoServer, and currently chairs the Project Steering Committee, and he is also on the Project Management Committee of GeoTools, the leading Java GIS toolkit. Chris is additionally a board member of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, of which GeoTools is a founding project.

An open geo-stack offers a flexible and feature-filled solution for your web mapping needs. Store your data with PostGIS, set up GeoServer to publish it, and develop an OpenLayers-based client for the browser. This tutorial will focus on these three core components of an open source geo-stack and will also cover architectures that cross the proprietary/open source divide. Read more.

The OpenGeo.org crew will show off a few different demos highlighting various aspects of the best open source standards-based software stack. At the center is GeoServer, GeoWebCache, and OpenLayers, demoing bleeding edge features like wiki-map editing, crawlability by Google's Geo Search, easy, high performance overlays of your data on commercial providers, and more.
