The Call for Participation for Velocity 2009 Is Closed

Call closed 11:59pm 01/13/2009 PST.

  • Are you the person who gets paged when your company’s site is slow or has gone down?
  • Do you know how to improve performance and balance efficiency and availability?
  • Have you overcome a major scaling challenge?
  • Have you been slashdotted, dugg, or techcrunched…and lived to tell the tale?

The submission deadline for all proposals is midnight January 13, 2009.

We will be responding to anyone submitting a proposal to speak at Velocity 2009 beginning January 26, 2009.

When submitting a proposal, please:

  1. Be authentic! Your peers need real-world scenarios they can use. Submit original session ideas that focus on hands-on instruction, with engaging and relevant examples.
  2. Be descriptive! Include as much detail about the planned presentation as possible. The more we know about what you plan to present, the better.
  3. Be specific! Proposals which are vague or cover too much material are unlikely to be accepted. If you think your proposal covers too much of a topic, consider submitting two proposals which split the material into different sessions.

We’re especially interested in:

  • How to tie web performance and operations to the bottom line
  • Real-world incident management – getting “tight like a pit crew”
  • Making websites as fast and reliable as desktop apps
  • Networking, DNS, and load balancing
  • Profiling’s not just on the backend: JavaScript, CSS, and the network
  • Managing web services – flaming disasters you survived and lessons learned
  • The intersection between performance and design
  • Wicked cool (and actionable) metrics
  • Ads, ads, ads – the performance killer?
  • Troubleshooting in production
  • How to scale and be fast on the social web
  • Capacity planning and load testing
  • Establishing performance and operations best practices within your organization
  • Configuration management best (and worst) tools and practices
  • Monitoring and instrumentation: Open Source, as a service, commercially supported solutions
  • Using multiple CDNs to improve customer experience and reduce cost

We welcome sessions for attendees with a variety of skill levels. Consider proposing a number of different skill-level sessions, and please indicate the experience and knowledge level of the audience that you are targeting: novice, intermediate, or expert.
