Windows Live Search Infrastructure: Windows at Web-Scale

Microsoft operates a large-scale deployment of Windows servers to provide services such as Windows Live Search, Hotmail and Virtual Earth. In order to manage the numbers of servers required for such a huge deployment a new operations management system called Autopilot was developed. Autopilot maintains the entire infrastructure for many Microsoft services and allows us to manage tens of thousands of servers with minimal human intervention and proper division of responsibility while maintaining near 100% uptime globally. This talk will show how Microsoft continues to innovate and grow its online services while keeping our costs low and our people happy.
