O'Reilly Strata Online is a fast-paced, web-based conference series tackling the impact of a data-driven, always-on world. It combines thorough tutorials, provocative panel discussions, real-world case studies, and deep-dives into technology stacks.

Data is the raw material for tomorrow's business. And just like any manufacturing process, transforming and refining that raw material is key to unlocking its value. This opening session looks at the creation of the data supply chain, from collecting and cleaning various data sources, to correlating and analyzing them, to delivering them when and where they're needed.
Panel: Who Owns Data? (30m)
Speakers: Jeff Jonas (IBM Entity Analytics), Chris Thorpe (Artfinder), Benjamin Hayes (Accenture)
In the world of Big Data, nothing's more controversial than ownership. Some data is best shared; other information loses value as it leaks. Benjamin Hayes, Accenture's data compliance lead, will discuss this hot topic with experts from the frontlines of the debate.
Real-World Applications: Tracking the World, One Thing at a Time (10m)

Tendril's Peter Laird takes us on a tour of the Internet of Things, showing us how in a few short years Big Data will be inextricably linked to every transaction in every industry.

Financial markets run on data. In this session, Steven Hirsch of NYSE Euronext looks at how financial information flows through some of the largest trading centers on the planet, where accuracy is everything and transaction speed is measured in microseconds.
Tech Stack: Blending Private and Public Data Sets (30m)
Speaker: Ian White (Urban Mapping, Inc)
Location, location, location. From maps to satellites to tagged images, it's never been this easy to infuse location into data. Urban Mapping's Ian White looks at the technology stack enterprises use to link in-house intelligence with geographic systems, giving them immediate insight into their channels, customers, partners, and competitors.

The entire conference will be recorded and made available to attendees free of charge afterwards.

Alistair Croll Alistair Croll
is the principal analyst at Bitcurrent, a research firm focused on emerging technologies; a founding partner of startup accelerator Year One Labs; an executive at CloudOps; an advisor to various technology venture firms; the creator of the Bitnorth conference; and the founder of the Human 2.0 blog on emerging technologies.

Prior to Bitcurrent, Alistair co-founded startup accelerator Rednod; web performance management firm Coradiant, and Networkshop, a research firm. He has also worked as a product manager for 3Com Corporation, Primary Access, and Eicon Technology.

Alistair coordinates content for a variety of prominent technology events, and chairs the O'Reilly Strata Conference with Edd Dumbill. He is a frequent contributor to a range of technology publications and blogs. He has taught at industry conferences such as Web2Expo, IGT, Interop, Structure, Enterprise 2.0, Velocity, Mesh, and eMetrics.
