Developing RESTful Flex and AIR Applications with Rails and RestfulX
Peter Armstrong will be demoing the MIT-licensed RestfulX framework (http://restfulx.github.com/), which brings the design principles and productivity of Rails to Adobe Flex and AIR development and makes integration with RESTful Web Services as simple as possible.
If you want to use Ruby on Rails, Merb, Sinatra, CouchDB or Google App Engine and you want a UI that puts the word Rich into Rich Internet Applications, this BoF is for you. RestfulX takes the way that Rails does REST using HTTP and brings it to the world of Adobe Flex and AIR. Did you come here on a plane? RestfulX lets you write AIR desktop apps that talk to the local SQLite database on the user’s machine when offline and to Rails when online—without changing the basic CRUD code which operates on your models! Have an iPhone, or does your app have an XML API already? RestfulX plays nicely with the other MIME types your Rails app supports, like HTML and XML.
This BoF will be an extended tutorial, which you can follow along with either during the tutorial or afterward.
