Design is 80% science and 20% art. It can sometimes seem that the reverse is true, but understanding a few rules and methods can help demystify the discipline.
This talk dives straight into the science of design with a quick-fire grounding in the techniques that help create good interfaces. From using the golden ratio in layout and Fibonacci numbers in typography, to brand design and art direction, it covers it all in tasty, bite-size pieces that will retain their flavor long after the session is done.

HI guys, thanks for the feedback, and apologies again for the projector clarity. The actual slides, either on SlideShare or as a PDF with my notes will hopefully be more useful:

Thanks for taking time to come to by the talk, and have a great remaining OSCON! :)
Very solid and helpful coverage of page layout and typography basics. Poor prep with regard to the presentation & projector though :|
When/where will the slides be available?
Lots of good basic info for a behind-the-web-page techie who is being forced into a designer role. Branding info not directly relevant, but interesting.
Too much time spent on branding.
not your fault, but the projector really messed you up…
