Delivering a Next-Generation Community Platform

Nick Halsey (Jaspersoft), Gopinath Ganapathy (Essentia), Tim Cloonan (Jaspersoft) Moderated by: Nick Halsey
Products & Services
Location: E141

Open source communities are evolving at a rapid pace from infrastructure-focused development communities to application-focused development, user, and business communities. Unfortunately, collaborative tools and environments that facilitate community development and interaction are in a rapid state of devolution. Today, beyond the need to support community project creation and contributions across a group of developers collaborating on the development of an open source project, open source community platforms increasingly need to deliver capabilities for higher levels of business and technical collaboration.

Web-based social networking platforms have generated an awareness of new techniques and technologies for communication and collaboration across multiple levels of community; including less technical users whose needs relate to the use or implementation of software, rather than its development. By involving multiple levels of users in open source communities using Web 2.0 capabilities and a social networking approach, modern systems are better able to convert lurkers to members, members to contributors, and ultimately contributors to commerce.

This presentation will unveil a new community platform that Jaspersoft has developed with its partner, Essentia Soft Solutions, to meet these challenges and deliver the first next-generation environment for commercial open source communities.
