Dojo is a liberally licensed, community-supported JavaScript toolkit that is continuing to experience significant traction and growth—primarily because it provides tremendous breadth and depth for accomplishing routine development tasks that are so good at eating up all of your time. Dojo can tremendously accelerate the time to complete virtually any DHTML-based project, while also significantly eliminating the amount of boilerplate that has become such a bane of web development.
This 45-minute session will provide an overview of the DojoX subproject called GFX (graphics), which packs a JavaScript API for creating, manipulating, and even animating vector graphics in the browser. The GFX project is cross-platform and can support multiple back-ends such as SVG, VML, and Silverlight. A systematic breakdown of the stable portions of the GFX API including lots of examples and live demonstrations will be presented, as well as an architectural synopsis, performance statistics collected across various browsers, etc.
This talk will introduce an emerging technology that (impressively) accomplishes a feat that many still believe only to be possible with Flash.
Director of Research Solutions for Digital Reasoning Systems, a company specializing in unstructured text mining; CTO of buzzwuz, a seed stage startup; author of Dojo: The Definitive Guide (O’Reilly, June 2008).
