MariaDB has a lot of improvements to the core optimiser that powers both MySQL & MariaDB. These optimiser features all have flags which you can enable (they are disabled by default). Learn more about table elimination, subquery optimisations, plus all the new features in MariaDB 5.3 including index condition pushdowns, multi-range read table access, block nested loop algorithm for outer joins, block nested hash loop joins (classic hash join), batched key access (BKA), microsecond support and a lot more. Igor and Sergey both work on all these optimiser features on a daily basis, and will be able to go deep in-depth to explain them and why they are beneficial to end-users in general.
This session is sponsored by Monty Program
Sergey Petrunya is a query optimizer developer at Monty Program Ab, the company behind the MariaDB project.
His previous position is a member of the optimizer team at Sun/MySQL, where he has implemented features ike index_merge access, partition pruning, semi-join subquery optimizations, and numerous smaller improvements.
Igor is one of the core developers of the MySQL Server code. He joined MySQL AB in 2002 to head a group of developers focusing on optimizer problems. After the acquisition of MySQL AB he acted as a Principal Engineer at Sun. In July 2009 Igor moved to Monty Program AB where he works now with his old colleagues from the MySQL Optimizer Team and other MySQL core developers. His activity mainly concentrates on enhancing the optimizer/executor components of the MariaDB Server. Yet, as a MariaDB captain, Igor also reviews and accepts community contributions.
