Elasticity is a key characteristic of public, private and hybrid clouds. Virtual machines can be spun up and spun down at a moment’s notice. But how do databases behave in clouds? What does it take to make a database or a data store fully elastic? In his keynote presentation, Marten discusses the various approaches to managing data in the cloud and the main vendors of data solutions for the cloud.
Marten Mickos is CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, the company behind the Eucalyptus open source cloud platform. Previously Marten was CEO of MySQL AB for seven years and led the Database Group at Sun Microsystems.
Mickos holds a M.Sc. in technical physics from Helsinki University of Technology. He is a recipient of the Audemars Piguet “Changing Times Award: European Entrepreneur of the Year 2006” and the Nokia Foundation Award.
