Dealing with databases means very often dealing with at least two or more copies of one database. The one in production is good when everything is working smoothly. But such a condition is ephemeral. You need to extend and modify your applications, and your database must evolve, and for this you will need a test database. Or two. As in the case when you need to test or benchmark several scenarios. You have the choice of using virtual machines, but depending of what you need, this is an expensive and slow solution. Enter the sandboxing technology. Instead of isolating a database inside a walled operating system, you can fiddle with the database settings to create the illusion of a virtual machine, but with the potential of easy maintenance and minimal commitment of hardware resources. For MySQL, there is a tool that takes the sandboxing principles to its extreme, and gives you a sandboxed system in seconds. But your systems could be more demanding than this. Using the same principles, this session will explain how to design and build a sandboxed system with several complex database scenarios.Attendees of this session will walk away with several techniques:
