MySQL replication is the backbone of web scalability. Yet, it is not well understood beyond its basics principles. This tutorial wants to guide demanding DBAs and developers through the path of advanced replication techniques. After a quick refresh of the replication basics, this tutorial will plunge into several techniques to perform failover and failback operations, both scheduled and as a reaction to failure. We will cover the manual procedure, several tools that can make the task easier, and third parties patches or frameworks that can achieve the purpose even more easily. Then, we will illustrate some techniques that can enhance the performance of the system by combining replication with other technologies, such as partitioning, engine changes, user defined functions, and some scripting glue.What the attendees will learn in this tutorial:
