This session will introduce OpenStack and the different components that currently make up the project. There will be some focus on Nova, the compute project, describing how it works today and the future development plans. There will also be some discussion on how it compares to other platforms, how the open source community is structured around it, and what folks can do to get involved to help build a better cloud computing platform.
Eric Day works on various open source projects such as OpenStack, SlackDB, and Gearman. He has been writing high-performance, multi-threaded, and multi-tenant servers and databases for most of his career. Always with an emphasis on efficiency and security, he has written complete HTTP/SSL, DNS, Gearman, and IMAP implementations, along with designing and implementing custom storage and database systems. Most of his work has been done in clustered and distributed environments.
Eric also keeps active in the open source community through speaking at conferences and user groups, as well as helping organize camps and conferences in Portland, OR. When not hacking on code, he can be found playing hockey, running, biking, or enjoying a good vegan meal with his wife.
