Sharding is a pain. Anyone who says differently is trying to sell you something. NoSQL DBs promise to solve the pains involved with sharding at the expense of integrating a whole new technology and data model.
In this presentation, Gwen Shapira will share stories from her 13 years of sharding experience: What was painful, which pains can be solved and which are here to stay. Learn how with some advanced planning, understanding of inherent trade-offs and little cooperation between operations and developement you can have less-painful sharded architecture using your favorite relational database.
