The ScaleDB architecture is based on a shared disk approach. It allows multiple MySQL servers to update and query the same physical database. It provides High Availability as if a MySQL server fails; the applications continue to operate with the surviving servers in the cluster without downtime. It provides Scalability by allowing to dynamically add (and remove) database nodes without the need to partition the data.
In addition, ScaleDB provides a storage layer which includes expendable caching and persistency components. The storage layer provides High Availability by mirroring the data at the storage layer. It provides Scalability as additional storage nodes can be added dynamically. The Database Nodes and the Storage Nodes are efficiently integrated providing HA and Scalability to MySQL applications in the cloud.
This session will demonstrate and explain the technology, the architecture and the use cases of the ScaleDB storage engine in the cloud.
Moshe Shadmon is the founder and CTO of ScaleDB. Moshe has more than 20 years of experience in both technical and management roles. Moshe’s technical experience has been in the areas of database clustering, high performance indexing solutions as well as the development of a unified solution for structured and semi-structured data. Since 2006, Moshe has become increasingly interested in the opportunity presented by the open source databases and founded ScaleDB to develop a database engine for MySQL targeting performance, efficiency and scalability with the largest data sets.
