Chander is the CEO of Zmanda, the global leader in open source enterprise backup. He has been deeply involved on both the technology and business sides of open source software and was named one of the “Top 20 Linux Luminaries” by Linux World Magazine in 2004. Earlier in his career, Chander was a business development executive at VERITAS software and served as a product line manager for storage software at SGI. Chander holds a MS in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BS in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Increasing number of large MySQL applications, e.g. social networking back-ends, use a distributed MySQL architecture. Backing up such large environments presents its own complexities. Application managers want a point-in-time restore which is coordinated across multiple servers.
