Nokia’s Performance Enhancements to Voldemort Key-Value Cloud Database with MySQL High Performance Persistent Store

Project Voldemort is an open source eventually consistent cloud key-value database with pluggable persistent store architecture. Voldemort is developed and maintained by LinkedIn and was donated to open source in 2009.

Nokia Participates in Project Voldemort and has been contributing performance and scalability enhancements. The session focuses on Nokia’s contributions and covers various aspects of MySQL schema optimization; connection pooling and concurrency tweaks in the MySQL Connector/J based client; and MySQL/InnoDB performance tuning.

In particular, the session will cover

• MySQL schema optimization leveraging InnoDB file format and physical storage organization.
• Connection pooling and concurrency tweaks in the MySQL Connector/J based JDBC client. We compare using MySQL JDBC connection pool, allocating MySQL connections as thread-local objects, and using MySQL connections in Java thread pool executors.
• MySQL Server and InnoDB Storage Engine performance tuning, and how eventual consistency and partitioning considerations influence MySQL server configuration.

The session attendees will learn how to use MySQL successfully as a high performance persistent store with massively parallel partitioned key-value databases For cloud and MySQL users, cloud and distributed database architects, developers, and DBAs.
