MariaDB is a branch of MySQL with additional features and improvements. This talk is about MariaDB’s unique query engine features:
Table elimination feature was developed by MariaDB team from scratch; development of Batched Key Access and Subquery Optimizations was started at Sun/MySQL but the features were not finished. MariaDB team used the unfinished code as a basis and built improved versions of the optimizations.
The talk will present accessible explanations of all three features, together with use examples and benchmarks.
Sergey Petrunya is a query optimizer developer at Monty Program Ab, where he has spent the last year working on MariaDB.
Prior to that, he has been working on MySQL query optimizer at MySQL Ab and Sun/MySQL, where he has implemented features like partition pruning, index_merge optimization, semi-join subquery optimizations and numerous smaller optimizer improvements.
