Vapour is a server that speaks the memcached protocol and uses MySQL Cluster (NDB) as the storage backend. By using the NDB API directly we are able to do very quick key operations.
The most common method to connect to NDB is via the MySQL server, which for basic key operations is rather expensive. Writing an NDB API application can be complex, as well as limiting what languages you can code in.
The memcached protocol is incredibly lightweight, simple and commonly used in Web applications.
Vapour can be used either to access an existing database in NDB or using NDB as a memcached cluster.
Stewart Smith hacks on Drizzle and has since the start of the project. Previously he worked on MySQL Cluster.
