This talk will start with a brief introduction into MySQL Plugins – what they are, why and how they can be used.
Then it will continue with a detailed description of a new features of the MySQL Plugin API, not present in the mysql-5.1, in particular
with use cases and examples for every new plugin type. Also it will cover
which is a solution to the main problem that prevents a true binary plugin independence – continuous changes in the server internals that make all (or most) plugins incompatible with the server.
This talk will cover both MySQL and MariaDB.
I was a MySQL developer since 1998. From 2000 to 2009 in MySQL AB, Sun, then in Monty Program AB on MariaDB. During these years I’ve touched almost almost every part of the server. To list a few projects – fulltext search, XA, HANDLER, precision math library, parallel repair and bulk inserts in MyISAM, indexes in MERGE. I’m a primary architect of the plugin API.
