Dormando’s Proxy for MySQL was created from the ground up around the same time as MySQL Proxy. While both use C, libevent, and lua, their motivations diverge greatly.

DPM is not a fork, and is a community project. Warmly accepting ideas, bugfixes, and patches. It is free, public, and can do cool tricks.

We will scratch the surface in this session. We won’t try to teach you Lua, but you will see what DPM is and what the flexibility DPM’s API brings to your project.

Topics on the table include:

- Just what is it, anyway? - Why bother to compete? - Demos of query analysis, inspection, and other things MySQL Proxy can do. - Authentication hacks. - Query multiplexing, per-packet inspection, and fun with replication. - Scale to many CPU’s with DPM’s multithreading API! - How you can help.
