Dormando’s Proxy for MySQL was created from the ground up around the same time as MySQL Proxy. While both use C, libevent, and lua, their motivations diverge greatly.
DPM is not a fork, and is a community project. Warmly accepting ideas, bugfixes, and patches. It is free, public, and can do cool tricks.
We will scratch the surface in this session. We won’t try to teach you Lua, but you will see what DPM is and what the flexibility DPM’s API brings to your project.
Topics on the table include:
- Just what is it, anyway? - Why bother to compete? - Demos of query analysis, inspection, and other things MySQL Proxy can do. - Authentication hacks. - Query multiplexing, per-packet inspection, and fun with replication. - Scale to many CPU’s with DPM’s multithreading API! - How you can help.
Kasindorf is the MySQL DBA for Six Apart’s properties, as well as many of their scaling tools. Originally a sysadmin for livejournal.com in 2002, he has since helped build numerous large web sites with open source software and is an advocate and contributor for Memcached, mogilefs, perlbal, and others.
