Replication is a versatile tool to use in your toolbox. It can be used to solve many problems modern web architectures, as well as various ways to simplify maintenance.

In this session, the replication developers will present a bag of useful tips and tricks including, but not limited to:

  • Ways to set up multi-source replication
  • Multi-master setup do:s and don’t
  • Using the Blackhole engine
  • Using log for auditing
  • Ways to handle filtering
  • Keeping the system online
  • Examining the binary log
  • Using relay slaves
  • Splitting the replication stream
  • Handling fail-over

Mats Kindahl is lead software developer in the MySQL replication team. He is the main architect and implementor of MySQL’s row-based replication, but has also developed the unit testing framework used by MySQL.

In the time before starting at MySQL, he has worked with research in formal methods, automated program analysis, distributed systems, and as developer of C/C++ compilers.

Dr. Lars Thalmann is the technical lead of replication and backup technology at MySQL. He has designed many of the features, and is leading the development of replication, online backup, character sets and XML. Dr. Thalmann has worked with clustering technology for many years and is one of the developers of NDB Cluster, the storage engine used in MySQL Cluster.

I would have liked to see more information about how to setup multi-source replication.
