MySQL Online Backup: An In-depth Introduction

One of the newest and most eagerly awaited features of the MySQL server is Online Backup. This tutorial presents an overview of the existing backup options (included tools and third party tools) as well as how the new Online Backup features compare.

The presentation will cover topics such as architecture of the backup system, details of the features available in the first release, a list of future enhancements, and best practices for protecting your data.

The presentation will close with a demonstration of the features of Online Backup available in the next release of the MySQL server.

Dr. Charles A. Bell conducts research in emerging technologies. He works for MySQL AB as a senior software developer on the replication team assisting the development of online backup features. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University where he teaches graduate-level computer science courses.
