One of the best-kept secrets of MySQL is that it has terrific support for .NET, in the form of a .NET data connector officially maintained and supported by MySQL AB as well as Visual Studio integration. In this session, we’ll take a look at tactics for building data-driven applications using .NET and MySQL. We’ll go “beyond the basics” to include real-world lessons from building .NET/MySQL sites such as Approver.com, as well as tricks and techniques for creating an application with as little hand-coded ADO.NET as possible.
We’ll also include discussion of creating a database-driven ASP.NET Ajax application, object-relational mapping strategies in .NET 2.0 as well as querying using LINQ in .NET 3.x.
Jeffrey McManus develops and runs the online document collaboration site Approver.com, which uses .NET and MySQL. He also runs the consultancy Platform Associates which provides strategic and tactical advice to businesses creating and managing platform products. Previously, he co-founded and led Yahoo’s Developer Network and was responsible for the release of tools such as Y!UI and BBAuth. Prior to that, he formed and led eBay’s Platform Evangelism team.
