Open Government has arrived in Canada without a doubt, but not everywhere. On the Open Data front, initiatives have been launched in 3 major cities in the country with several others preparing or exploring the opportunity. In social media the Provincial Government in British Columbia has started two blogs that share and seek input regarding legislation that is up for renewal. Federally, there is little to see for the public, but behind the Government Firewall there is some action – including some adoption of wikis, facebook groups and twitter.

In this overview of the state of open government in Canada David will outline where there have been successes, where there have been challenges and explain why this is the case, and what it could mean for other jurisdictions.
