SearchMonkey is an application platform that allows external developers to create applications that enrich the presentation of a Yahoo! Search result. Instead of using automated methods to second-guess the relevant parts of the result page, SearchMonkey applications rely on structured data (RDF, microformats) to understand the objects that are described on the page. This deeper understanding of content allows generating more compelling and richer result displays, leading users to the right results in a shorter time and thereby improving the overall search experience.
In this BoF session, we will discuss SearchMonkey, the adoption of structured data on the Web, and some of Yahoo!’s future plans in the area of semantic search.
